Let’s Go
The Worthington Youth Boosters Field Hockey Program offers a fun and supportive environment for girls in grades 2-8 to learn and grow in the sport. With a focus on fundamentals, teamwork, and game play, the program progresses from in-house scrimmages for younger players to competitive games against local teams for older players.
Grades 3 & 4 play field hockey 2 days per week from August to October. The focus of this program is on learning FUNdamentals through small games and exercises, plus weekly in-house scrimmages. Tentatively scheduled for Sundays at 3:00 and Mondays at 6:00.
Required equipment includes a stick, shin guards, mouth guard, and water bottle. Goggles and cleats are optional. Sticks are available to families in need.
Grades 5 & 6 play field hockey 3 days per week from August to October. The focus of this program is on learning FUNdamentals and an introduction to team play. Includes in-house scrimmages and games vs other local youth programs! Tentatively scheduled for Sundays at 4:00, Wednesdays at 6:00, and Saturdays at 11:00.
Required equipment includes a stick, shin guards, mouth guard, cleats, and water bottle. Goggles are optional. Sticks are available to families in need.
Grades 7 & 8 play field hockey 4 days per week from August to October on the Worthington Wolves or Worthington Cardinals teams. Includes a full game schedule vs Columbus-area middle school teams. Tentatively scheduled for Sundays at 5:00, Tuesdays & Thursdays at 6:00, and Saturdays at 9:30. Practices are 1.5-2 hours and games usually fall on Thursdays and Sundays. Cost includes a uniform kit (skort & jerseys) for the season.

Beginner Clinics are offered at various dates and times throughout the year. These clinics are a great, low-cost way to introduce field hockey to a friend or young athlete, or even to knock the rust off between seasons. Clinics cover FUNdamental field hockey skills through simple instruction and small games. Athletes just need gym shoes and a water bottle. Shin guards and mouth guards are optional. And no need to buy a stick, we will provide them! Our coaches are great with kids; they make trying field hockey for the first time a breeze!
Field Hockey Stick - height of the stick should be based roughly on length from foot to hip bone - hold the stick up to one leg and make sure the top of the stick goes up to about the hip bone, not more than an inch higher or lower. All field hockey sticks are right handed, but lefties can play just fine! See the Longstreth stick guide for more information on choosing the right stick.
Shin Guards - Field hockey shin guards must cover the ankle bones and most of the shin bone. Soccer shin guards do not provide enough protection and are therefore not permitted.
Mouth Guard - Must be of a color other than white or clear for officiated games. A special mouth guard can be purchased to fit over braces.
Footwear - Cleats are great for grass and are recommended for all League play. Cleats are required for middle school. On turf, athletes can wear soccer-style cleats, a special turf shoe or athletic shoes like cross trainers. No cleats with spikes or running spikes.
Uniforms - A t-shirt is included with registration for 3/4 and 5/6 rec leagues. Middle School uniform kits are distributed at the beginning of the season and collected at the end of the season. Replacement costs will be assessed if not returned in full. Kits include a home jersey (white), an away jersey (dark), and a skort.
Water Bottle - always bring a large water bottle, full of water!!!!
Goggles - As of 2020, goggles are optional. If worn, field hockey goggles must meet the ASTM F2713-09 standard (lacrosse goggles do not qualify).
