STAFF BIOS:

Ashley Downs (sport director / coach) | ashley.downs@gmail.com

Ashley joined WYB Field Hockey in 2014. She is active on the WYB Board of Directors and serves as sport director for WYB Field Hockey. She is a member of the USA Field Hockey Association and is a certified Level I Coach. She also earned NFHS Coaching Field Hockey certification. Ashley was a founding member of Club Field Hockey at Miami University and played midfield for Fairmont High School in Kettering, Ohio. She works part-time for MHS Indusitral Supply, plays broomball, and enjoys being an advocate for field hockey. Her two young boys frequent the hockey field and "help" with hockey activities.

Belinda has been playing hockey since she was 7 years old and even played in the opening for the Africa games in 1994.  She loves the sport and is excited to get back on the field again! Belinda is a certified Level I Coach and also officiates during the off-season.  She started coaching middle school field hockey for WYB in 2016.

Bertha was first introduced to field hockey in middle school and continued through high school.  During a stent when her team did not have a coach, she took on coaching responsibilities and discovered that she enjoyed coaching just as much as playing.  It has been many years since she has played but still has the fire and passion for field hockey to share with the next generation of players.  She works in Worthington right off High Street, loves to travel and has visited at least 20 states in our beautiful country.  She started coaching youth field hockey for WYB in 2016.

Originally from Buffalo, NY, Courteney started playing field hockey in 7th grade. She was part of her high school's state winning varsity team and was recently inducted into their Hall of Fame. She coached and played club field hockey in college and enjoys playing recreationally. Courteney moved to Columbus, OH in December 2016 to be closer to her sister, Tiena and family who lives in Worthington. She will be coaching the youth players this year.

Jess grew up in Maryland a played field hockey there through high school. She moved to Ohio to attend OSU where she played club field hockey.  She coached the Wolves in 2014 & 2015 and is excited to be back with team again in 2017!

Julia grew up in the DC suburbs and began playing field hockey in middle school as a midfielder. In high school, she tried playing goalie at practice on a whim and ended up loving the position so much that she continued as goalkeeper for her high school's varsity, indoor and summer league teams, as well as a club team. She attended OSU and coached the youth field hockey team back home during her summers. She now works full-time in Columbus and is excited to get involved with field hockey again!  Julia will be working with all the WYBFH teams on goalkeeping and defense.

Kieran is a graduate of Thomas Worthington High School and Ohio University. She earned her undergraduate degree in Special Education and a Masters in Reading Education.  She is a teacher in Southwestern City Schools. Throughout high school, she played varsity field hockey and lacrosse and remained very involved with these sports through clubs and coaching at clinics. Fun fact: Kieran was part of the Cards field hockey team that won State in 2012! She will be coaching the Cards teams this year.

Sam grew up in Worthington Ohio and played for the Thomas Worthington Field Hockey program. We went to at least, the District finals every Year, were State Runner ups my Junior year, and won the State Championship my senior year! I then went on to play field hockey at Central Michigan University. She helped coach summer leagues and practices and has always loved field hockey! Fun fact: Sam has a Chiweenie named Buster!  She will be coaching the Cards team this year.

Tiena played varsity field hockey for 5 years at Sweet Home Senior High School in Amherst, NY. During that time she received numerous honors including MVP and my team ranked 4th in New York State. She has been an elementary school teacher for the past 11 years and currently teaches 4th grade in South-Western City Schools. Her family moved to Columbus, OH. Her son attends Bluffsview Elementary and is involved in LOTS of WYB sports. She loves sports and is super excited to be involved in field hockey again! Tiena will be coaching the youth players this year.

Tierney Ford 

Tierney began her field hockey career right here with WYB! She went on to play varsity all four years at Thomas Worthington under Coach Simonetti, then played club at Miami University. She graduated from Miami in 2015 with a degree in Early Childhood Education and teaches 3rd grade at Evening Street Elementary in Worthington. She joined the WYB Field Hockey coaching staff in 2015, served as head coach of the middle school Cards team for 2 years. Tierney will be coaching the TWHS JV team beginning in 2017 and we wish her well.

 

Katie LeBrun 

Katie joined WYB Field Hockey in 2014 as head coach of the 4th and 5th grade teams. She played field hockey in high school in California and fell in love with it. She teaches 3rd grade at Genoa Christian Academy in Westerville. Katie is taking the year off from coaching but we hope to see her back soon.
